Access Terms & Privacy Statement for Frontline Heroes
Welcome to the Frontline Heroes website available at frontlineheroes.uk or thankfrontlineheroes.org (the “Site”). The Site is operated by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (the “Foundation”) and its service providers in collaboration with certain partners listed on the Site, which may be updated from time to time (together, “we”, “our” or “us”). The Site was created to tell the stories of healthcare professionals from around the world, who are helping to save lives in the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a platform for them to share personal experiences and for the public to demonstrate their support and thanks.
This page sets out the specific terms and conditions (“Access Terms”) applicable to all users’ (“you”, “your”) access and use of the Site and information about how your personal information may be used in particular ways when you use the Site (“Privacy Statement”).
We may amend these Access Terms and/or the Privacy Statement from time to time. Please check this page regularly to ensure you understand the terms and conditions which will apply at any particular time.

- User Generated Content and NTD Procedure
However, we rely on you to inform us of any abuse or inappropriate Content on the Site, in which case we may review specific Content posted by any user of the Site. In this respect, we operate a “notice and take down” procedure (“NTD Procedure”) which you agree to use as the sole remedy in respect of any User Generated Content which causes you concern or to which you object on legal or other grounds.
The NTD Procedure shall operate as follows:
- you must notify us immediately [email protected] upon becoming aware of any User Generated Content to which you have any concern or objection (“Objection”);
- we shall endeavor to review the User Generated Content and may take such action as we deem appropriate (including removal of the User Generated Content, or rejection of your Objection);
Unless otherwise specified in the Objection, you acknowledge that we have the right to disclose your identity and contact details to the person responsible for any particular item of User Generated Content. We reserve the right to refuse to disclose, unless compelled to do so by law, the identity or contact details of any person who is responsible for User Generated Content.

Please note that the Content featured on the Site may be replicated or supplemented on third party social media websites, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, which are governed by, and require your agreement to, different terms and conditions. This Privacy Statement supplements the Privacy & Cookies Notice using the same headings (but without repeating each and every heading).
What data we collect about you
Data you provide yourself
If you are a healthcare professional contributing your story to the Site, we will ask for the following information about you: name, country location, email address, details about your job in healthcare, and information as to your motivations and challenges as you tackle the COVID-19 crisis. You may also provide personal information as contained within images and videos that you upload to the Site.
If you are a supporter who wishes to support the healthcare professionals featured on the Site, we will ask for the following information about you: name, post code, email address, and your message of support.
How we use your data
If you are a healthcare professional, we will use your personal information to publish your story (using only the details you have provided, although we reserve the right to edit this information for meaning, style, etc.)
We may also use your personal information to keep in touch with you for follow-up purposes.
If you are a supporter, we will use your personal information to administer the sending of your message of support to the healthcare professional of your choosing and we will publish your message of support on the Site. Where you have opted in for our newsletter, we will send these to the email address you have provided to us. You can opt out from receiving newsletters using links within each newsletter email or by contacting us at [email protected]
Legal bases under the GDPR
Our processing of your personal information for the above additional purposes is necessary for our legitimate interests (including our interests in operating the Site, promoting the important work of healthcare professionals who are tackling COVID-19, and encouraging those healthcare professionals with messages of support), with the exception of sending you newsletters by email, which relies on your consent.
When we share your data
Employees, agents, affiliates, service providers, and partners
We receive assistance with the administration of the Site from third party services providers who are data processors for the purposes of applicable data protection laws, including the GDPR. These services providers may only use your personal information on our behalf.
